Aspects of the present disclosure include detecting battery cell degradation. An exemplary battery management system may include a memory, computer readable instructions, and one or more processors to perform operations including: in response to determining that a state of charge has been completed, measuring a first cell voltage of a cell of a battery pack; in response to the first cell voltage exceeding the reference voltage, measuring a second cell voltage of a cell of the battery pack; in response to a second cell voltage being equal to the reference voltage, measuring a cell pressure of a cell of the battery pack at the reference voltage; determining a difference between the cell pressure and a previous cell pressure at the reference voltage; and in response to a difference between the cell pressure and a previous cell pressure exceeding a threshold, identifying the cell of the battery pack as a degraded cell.
