There is provided a method and system for controlling automatic exit of a vehicle from a parking space, the method and system comprising: a sensor configured to obtain sensor data relating to a parking space and a lane of a roadway near the parking space, the sensor data comprising a respective traffic flow direction; and a processor coupled to the sensor and configured to at least facilitate: selecting a lane to be entered by the vehicle upon exiting the parking space based at least in part on the traffic flow direction; selecting a turn to be made by the vehicle so that the vehicle travels in the same direction as the traffic flow direction; and performing automatic exit of the vehicle from the parking space to the selected lane by causing the vehicle to make a selected turn to enter the selected lane.
