The invention discloses a tooth-shaped steel belt for elevator traction and a preparation method of the tooth-shaped steel belt. The steel belt comprises a bearing body and a polyurethane coating body coating the bearing body, the polyurethane coating body is prepared from the following components in parts by mass: 100 parts of thermoplastic polyurethane, 10 to 25 parts of flaky metal/clay composite filler and 0.5 to 2 parts of interface modifier; the flaky metal/clay composite filler comprises a flaky clay filler and at least one metal oxide layer coating the surface of the flaky clay filler; the preparation method of the flaky metal/clay composite filler comprises the following steps: assembling an organic ligand and metal ions on the surface of the flaky clay filler to obtain a metal organic framework; and calcining the metal organic framework to obtain a metal oxide layer. The tooth-shaped steel belt provided by the invention has excellent water resistance and wear resistance, and also has good toughness and tensile strength.
