The range extender control method comprises the steps that internal combustion engine power at the previous moment, internal combustion engine power at the current moment, a first power influence item and a second power influence item are obtained; determining the required power at the current moment according to the first power influence item, and predicting the required power at the next moment according to the second power influence item; battery power change is obtained according to the demand power at the current moment and the internal combustion engine power at the current moment; predicting the power of the internal combustion engine at the next moment according to the battery power change and the required power at the next moment; according to the internal combustion engine power at the previous moment, the internal combustion engine power at the current moment and the internal combustion engine power at the next moment, power needing to be provided by the internal combustion engine at the current moment is determined; and the range extender is controlled based on the power needing to be provided by the internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine power is calculated according to the power influence item, the working condition point of the internal combustion engine can be prevented from drastically changing, it is ensured that the power battery does not feed, and the power requirement is responded in time.
