The invention provides a suspension type unmanned aerial vehicle automatic charging device and method. The device comprises a main control box capable of sensing the approaching of the unmanned aerial vehicle, a charging platform plate which is hung on the main control box, can rotate and unfold and is provided with a charging contact disc and a waterproof covering plate, a charging assembly for automatically charging the unmanned aerial vehicle, a central controller in communication connection with the unmanned aerial vehicle, the main control box and the charging assembly, and a wireless communication module in communication connection with the central controller. And the fixing piece is used for fixing the components on a vertical rod or a wall. When the unmanned aerial vehicle is low in power and needs to be charged, the unmanned aerial vehicle can land on the aerial platform plate to be charged. According to the device and the method, the unmanned aerial vehicle can be conveniently, efficiently and automatically charged in the air, the long-distance cruising ability of the unmanned aerial vehicle is effectively improved, and then the working efficiency of the unmanned aerial vehicle is improved.
