The present invention addresses the problem of providing a proximity sensor system, a steering device, and a malfunction diagnosis method that make it possible to diagnose the presence or absence of a malfunction in a proximity sensor using a relatively simple configuration. In order to solve the problem, the proximity sensor system is provided with: a plurality of proximity sensors (4-7) for detecting the proximity of a human body (H) to a steering wheel; and a fault diagnosis device (8) for diagnosing whether there is a fault in the proximity sensors (4-7). The proximity sensors (4-7) are each provided with: electrode parts (40-70) provided at different positions of the steering wheel; a power supply circuit (45) that applies a voltage of an oscillation frequency to the electrode unit; and a measurement circuit (46) that measures the electrical characteristics of the electrode part. The failure diagnosis device (8) sets at least two of the plurality of proximity sensors (4-7) as an oscillation target and a diagnosis target, acquires a measurement result of the electrical characteristics measured by the measurement circuit of the diagnosis target during a period in which the electromagnetic wave of the oscillation frequency is generated by the power supply circuit of the oscillation target, and diagnoses the presence or absence of a failure in the diagnosis target on the basis of the measurement result.

    本发明的问题在于提供一种能够利用比较简单的结构来诊断接近传感器有无故障的接近传感器系统、转向装置以及故障诊断方法。为了解决上述问题,接近传感器系统具备:多个接近传感器4~7,检测人体H对方向盘的接近;及故障诊断装置8,诊断接近传感器4~7有无故障。接近传感器4~7分别具备:电极部40~70,设置于方向盘的不同位置;电源电路45,对电极部施加振荡频率的电压;及测定电路46,测定电极部的电特性。故障诊断装置8将多个接近传感器4~7中至少两个设定为振荡对象及诊断对象,并且获取由振荡对象的电源电路产生振荡频率的电磁波的期间内由诊断对象的测定电路测定的电特性的测定结果,并基于该测定结果来诊断诊断对象有无故障。
