The invention relates to a drainage characteristic characterization method for a drainage device of a self-flow cooling system, and belongs to the field of ship self-flow cooling, an outlet of the drainage device is connected to an inlet pipeline of the self-flow cooling system, and the method comprises the following steps: carrying out a self-flow cooling experiment, and obtaining multiple groups of data of relative speeds V and relative pressure heads P of the drainage device in different scenes; the relative speed V is the ratio of the internal flow velocity VN of the water flow at the inlet pipeline of the self-flowing cooling system to the external flow velocity V0 of the ship; the relative pressure head P is the ratio of a static pressure head Ph of water flow at an inlet pipeline of the self-flowing cooling system to a flowing pressure head P0 outside the ship; and forming a drainage characteristic curve f (V, P) according to a plurality of groups of relative speed V and relative pressure head P data, and representing the drainage characteristics of the drainage device by using the characteristic curve. According to the drainage characteristic characterization method, the problem that a drainage device of an existing self-flowing type cooling system does not have a standard hydraulic characteristic characterization method is solved.
