The invention discloses a self-adaptive electric vehicle charger which comprises a shell, a control panel, an air inlet, an air outlet, a cooling fan, a power line, a charging line and a charging connector and further comprises a patch cord, a male head at one end of the patch cord is matched with the charging connector, and a female head at the other end of the patch cord is matched with a charging interface of an old electric vehicle. The patch cord is internally provided with a wiring structure which is used for enabling a communication cable in the charging connector to be in short circuit with the negative electrode after the patch cord is connected with the charging connector. When the patch cord is not connected, the control panel is configured to communicate with a control system of the electric vehicle through the communication cable and control the charging line to output charging current after a protocol is successfully exchanged; when the patch cord is connected, the control panel is configured to control the patch cord to output charging current after detecting that the communication cable is short-circuited.
