The invention relates to an environment-friendly ship propulsion system and a corresponding ship propulsion method. An eco-friendly ship propulsion system comprises a permeation chamber (1), a decompression unit (2) and a desalination unit, the permeation chamber (1) comprising a high salinity zone (11) and a low salinity zone (12) separated from each other by a permeable membrane (13). The pressure reduction unit (2) has at least one pressure-to-motion converter which is connected to the high-salinity zone (11) of the permeation chamber (1) via a high-pressure line (21). The desalination unit is adapted to produce, on the one hand, salt or at least high-salt water and, on the other hand, fresh water or at least low-salt water. The desalination unit is connected with the low-salinity area (12) of the permeation chamber (1) through a fresh water pipe, and a saline water source (14) is controllably connected with the high-salinity area (11) of the permeation chamber (1).
