The invention discloses a locomotive storage battery harmful gas detection and treatment system and a control method thereof. The system comprises a storage battery chamber, a first pipeline, a second pipeline, a concentration sensor, a first pressure sensor, a second pressure sensor, an electric control valve, an exhaust device and a control unit, one end of the first pipeline is communicated with the storage battery chamber, and the other end is communicated with the storage chamber; one end of the second pipeline is communicated with the storage chamber, and the other end is arranged outside the locomotive; the electric control valve is arranged in the second pipeline; the control unit is electrically connected with the concentration sensor, the first pressure sensor, the second pressure sensor, the exhaust device and the electric control valve. Compared with the prior art, the sealing performance of the vehicle under the normal condition is guaranteed, and the riding experience of passengers in the driving process is improved. And on the other hand, the problem that harmful gas is difficult to discharge when the air pressure in the storage chamber is smaller than that outside the storage locomotive is solved. Furthermore, the exhaust effectiveness is ensured, the energy consumption is reduced, and the service life of the exhaust fan is prolonged.
