A structural reinforcement for use on an article comprising a carrier (10), comprising: (i) a block (12) of polymeric material having an outer surface; and (ii) at least one fibrous composite insert (14) or cover layer (980) having an outer surface and comprising at least one elongate fiber arrangement (e.g., having a plurality of ordered fibers). A fibrous insert (14) or cover layer (960) is envisaged to abut the mass of polymeric material at a predetermined location to carry a predetermined load applied thereon (thereby effectively locally reinforcing the predetermined location). The fibrous insert (14) or the cover layer (960) is a compatible material and/or structure with the mass of polymeric material (12) to allow the fibrous insert or the cover layer to be at least partially attached to the mass of polymeric material. A block (128) of activatable material may also be placed on at least a portion of the carrier (10). The fibrous insert (14) or cover layer (960) may comprise a polymer matrix comprising a thermoplastic epoxy resin.
