The method comprises the steps that a first contour image collected by a laser radar and a second contour image collected by a first camera of the electronic rearview mirror are obtained, the collection time of the first contour image is the same as that of the second contour image, the installation positions of the laser radar and the first camera on a vehicle are adjacent, and the collection directions are the same; if the similarity between the first contour image and the second contour image is larger than or equal to the preset similarity, the delay time of the electronic rearview mirror is determined according to the first contour image and the second contour image; if the similarity is less than the preset similarity or the delay time is greater than the preset time, performing fault detection on the electronic rearview mirror to obtain a fault detection result; and controlling to open the physical rearview mirror under the condition that the fault detection result indicates that the electronic rearview mirror has the fault currently. The technical problem that in the prior art, an electronic rearview mirror is low in safety is solved.
