The present invention relates to an automatic driving system that switches between an automatic driving mode and a manual driving mode in the case of automatic driving. The method for coping with an automatic driving failure situation executed in an automatic driving system according to the present invention comprises: a step of predicting whether a vehicle is out of an operation design area in which automatic driving can be performed during a driving process; and when the departure is predicted, executing a minimum risk maneuver program to control the vehicle to cope with an automatic driving failure condition based on the departure place. According to the invention, the stability of the automatic driving system in an emergency can be improved, and an optimal coping method can be provided by providing a stable mode switching method of the automatic driving system.
