The invention discloses a vehicle following distance adjusting method and device, equipment and a storage medium. The method comprises the steps that current own vehicle information of a target vehicle, current preceding vehicle information of a preceding vehicle and the actual distance between the target vehicle and the preceding vehicle are obtained; based on the current own vehicle information, the current preceding vehicle information and the actual distance, the current own vehicle working condition of the target vehicle is determined; the current self-vehicle working conditions comprise emergency braking and fixed-point parking; based on the current self-vehicle working condition, determining a target vehicle following time interval corresponding to the current self-vehicle working condition; the target car-following time interval comprises an emergency braking car-following time interval and a fixed-point parking car-following time interval; the target vehicle following time interval is used for controlling the distance between the target vehicle and the front vehicle to be a preset safe distance; and adjusting the vehicle following distance of the target vehicle based on the target vehicle following time interval. By utilizing the technical scheme provided by the invention, the safety and comfort of the vehicle during following driving under different working conditions can be improved.
