According to the elevator rope degradation detection method disclosed by the invention, the first parameter of the elevator rope is estimated by utilizing the torque current before and after the load change in the elevator car during the stopping period of the elevator at the stopping floor and the length change of the elevator rope due to the load change in the elevator car, and the degradation of the elevator rope is determined according to the estimation result of the first parameter. The first parameter refers to the elongation gamma1 of the elevator rope with the unit length under the action of the unit tension or the tension gamma2 required by the elevator rope with the unit length to extend for the unit length. According to the elevator rope degradation detection method, the degradation of the elevator rope can be simply, conveniently and accurately detected at low cost.
