The embodiment of the invention relates to an electric vehicle and a railway system. The invention provides an electric vehicle and a railway system which can restrain operation cost to be low. An electric vehicle (6) according to one embodiment is provided with: a first power converter (8) that converts a voltage value of system power to a predetermined voltage value and outputs the voltage value; a second power converter (10) that converts the voltage value of the output power of the first power converter (8) to a predetermined voltage value and outputs the voltage value to a motor; a third power converter (12) that converts the voltage value of the output power from the first power converter (8) to a predetermined voltage value and outputs the voltage value to an auxiliary machine; and a battery (9) charged by the output power of the first power converter (8) and discharged when the output power of the second power converter (10) and the third power converter (12) exceeds the upper limit of the output power of the first power converter (8).
