A dispensing robot for applying a layer of sealant onto an interior surface of a tire as the tire rotates about a horizontal rotation axis includes an articulated arm assembly including a distal arm member. A sealant nozzle may be carried by the distal arm member and configured to dispense beads of sealant material from a nozzle tip of the sealant nozzle when the sealant nozzle is moved in a transverse direction across a width of the inner surface of the rotating tire. First and second distance sensors may be located on opposite sides of the sealant nozzle and configured to be viewed along a length of the sealant nozzle such that a distance of the nozzle tip from the inner surface of the tire is detected by the distance sensors.
