The invention discloses a wheel track adjusting device for a mobile robot and a control method of the wheel track adjusting device. The wheel track adjusting device for the mobile robot comprises a wheel track adjusting motor, a speed reducer, a double-thread screw, a cross beam support, a guide rail, a flange nut, a sliding block assembly, an independent steering assembly and a tire driving and supporting assembly. The wheel track adjusting motor is mounted on the speed reducer; the speed reducer is fixed on the cross beam bracket, two ends of the double-thread screw are provided with positive and negative teeth, and the double-thread screw penetrates through an output shaft hole of the speed reducer; the flange nut is arranged on the double-thread screw in a sleeving mode and connected with the sliding block assembly at the same time. The guide rail is fixed on the cross beam bracket; the sliding block assembly is arranged on the guide rail in a sleeving mode and can move on the guide rail. The independent steering assembly is fixed to the sliding block assembly. The tire driving and supporting assembly is fixed to an output shaft of the independent steering assembly.
