The invention belongs to the technical field of mechanical engineering robots, and particularly relates to an intelligent climbing robot adaptive to a variable cross-section column based on bidirectional butt joint locking, the intelligent climbing robot comprises a walking mechanism and a grinding mechanism, and the walking mechanism comprises an opening and closing mechanism, a power mechanism and a clamping mechanism. The opening and closing mechanism is formed by combining two single-side frames with opposite openings in a butt joint mode, and the two single-side frames are connected in a butt joint mode through a butt joint sleeve structure and a mechanical lock structure. The power mechanism is arranged on the inner side of the single-side frame; the clamping mechanism comprises two clamping plates with opposite openings, the single-side frame and the clamping plate which are located on the same side are connected through a telescopic connecting structure, and a sliding connecting structure for the grinding mechanism to slide is welded to the outer side of each clamping plate. The single-side frames on the two sides of the walking mechanism can be manually separated, butted and locked, the walking mechanism can be rapidly locked after being formed into a whole and can hold a certain constant pressure to adapt to changes of column sections, power is symmetrically distributed, and the crawling stability is good.
