The invention provides an electric vehicle and a method for diagnosing deterioration of a vehicle battery. When a fault occurs in a PCU (inverter) of an electric vehicle, a first map in which the temperature (TB) and current (IB) of a battery are used as parameters or a second map in which the temperature (TB) and the rate of change ([Delta] VB) of the voltage (VB) of the battery are used as parameters is used to determine whether or not rapid degradation of the battery has occurred (S12, S13). When it is determined that the rapid degradation of the storage battery has occurred, a storage battery replacement warning light is turned on (S14).
