A hybrid vehicle is provided with: a first motor generator (1) for power generation, which is driven by an internal combustion engine (2); and a second motor generator (4) for travel, which is driven by the battery (5). As a basic travel mode, an S mode, an ECO mode, and a NORMAL mode are switched by a mode switching switch (16). In the S mode and the ECO mode, the deceleration of regenerative braking on a downhill road is large, and the regeneration amount is increased. When the controller (6) predicts that a downhill road exists in the travel route, if the controller (6) is in the S mode and the ECO mode, the controller (6) executes SOC reduction control for reducing the SOC in advance before the downhill road starts, and if the controller (6) is in the NORMAL mode, the controller (6) does not execute the SOC reduction control.
