A common aspect of the present disclosure relates to a method for defending manipulation of an onboard network of a vehicle. The method comprises receiving a signature of a current anomaly in the onboard network and performing a first countermeasure that transitions the vehicle and/or at least one component thereof to a predetermined secure state. A first corresponding measure is selected based on the signature. The method further includes performing a second corresponding measure to at least partially restore a functional range of the vehicle. A first countermeasure and/or a second countermeasure for the current anomaly is dynamically selected from a variety of available countermeasures based on status information about the vehicle and/or the current anomaly.
