A system for estimating a coverage area and an observation area of an unmanned aerial vehicle 104 (UAV 104) and a method thereof, the method comprising creating an operational map of area coverage 302 of a takeoff point related to a complex terrain based on no-fly area polygon data and altitude data according to area coverage information provided by a navigation unit; the operating map is created using a plurality of sampling points, and the sampling points are verified by checking whether the sampling points are located in a no-fly zone or exceed a maximum AGL. In addition, the operation map is drawn by taking a take-off point as a center point; furthermore, the invention also relates to determining and generating a coverage area and an observation area of the unmanned aerial vehicle according to the operation map; the invention also discloses a function for checking takeoff suitability.
