The invention relates to an automobile steering gear, in particular to a steering gear assembly with a gap adjusting mechanism. The steering gear comprises a steering gear shell, an input shaft and a rack, a transverse hole connected with the rack through a lining is formed in the steering gear shell, an inclined hole for installing the input shaft is formed in the middle of the steering gear shell, and a straight hole is formed in the end of the bottom of the inclined hole; and a gap adjusting mechanism is arranged in the straight hole. The input shaft of the steering gear is arranged in the middle of the steering gear shell, the distance between the input shaft and a steering wheel arranged in the middle of a vehicle body can be effectively reduced, the length of an intermediate shaft connecting the input shaft and the steering wheel can be effectively shortened, and therefore the production cost can be effectively reduced. The problem that an existing steering gear used by a dune buggy or a golf sightseeing bus is high in manufacturing cost is solved.
