The method comprises the steps of obtaining a rotation direction and a rotation angle of a steering wheel of a target vehicle; under the condition that the rotation angle is located in the soft dead center angle range corresponding to the rotation direction, steering force corresponding to the rotation angle is obtained, and assistance is provided for rotation of a steering wheel of the target vehicle based on the steering force; and under the condition that the rotation angle is larger than the maximum value of the soft dead center angle range corresponding to the rotation direction, the soft dead center angle range corresponding to the rotation direction and the soft dead center angle range corresponding to the reverse direction of the rotation direction are updated based on the rotation angle. Under the condition that the rotation angle of the steering wheel is larger than the maximum value of the soft dead center angle range corresponding to the rotation direction, the soft dead center angle range is automatically updated based on the rotation angle, and therefore the control efficiency of electric power steering assistance is improved.
