An autonomous vehicle (AV) includes features that allow the AV to comply with application regulations and regulations to perform safe driving operations. An example method for operating an AV includes determining trajectory-related information of a vehicle operating on a road on which the AV is operating; receiving sensor data including a first area of the vehicle; determining additional trajectory-related information of the autonomous vehicle by comparing the trajectory-related information of the vehicle with current trajectory-related information of the autonomous vehicle, where the additional trajectory-related information is based on a category to which the vehicle belongs, and where the additional trajectory-related information allows the AV to maintain at least a distance between the AV and the vehicle; and causes the AV to operate on the basis of the additional trajectory-related information.
