In order to brake the motorcycle, a braking request with a currently requested braking torque is detected, a current maximum charging power of the drive energy store (10) is detected, a current maximum loss power that can be generated in the electric drive motor (12) and/or in the electric on-board system is determined, a currently required loss power is determined, and the currently required loss power is generated in the electric drive motor (12) and/or in the electric on-board system. The current required loss power is derived from a difference between a current maximum charging power and a maximum recovery power of the electric drive motor (12) for a current requested braking torque, and a current additional braking torque is determined, which can be applied by an additional braking device (24), and the current additional braking torque is derived from the difference between the currently required braking torque and the braking torque of the electric drive motor (12) resulting from the current maximum charging power and the current maximum power loss that can be applied. According to the invention, the electric drive motor (12) and/or the electric on-board system are/is actuated with reduced efficiency in such a way that the currently required power loss is reached, and the additional braking device (24) is actuated in such a way that the current additional braking torque is applied by the additional braking device (24).
