The driving system comprises a main guide plate, an auxiliary guide plate, a driving main shaft, a connecting shaft and a driver; the main guide plate and the auxiliary guide plate are correspondingly arranged on each group of guide rail assemblies in a left-right sliding manner; the main guide plate and the auxiliary guide plate are fixedly connected with each other; the driving main shaft is connected between the main guide plates on the two sides; the connecting shaft is connected between the auxiliary guide plates on the two sides. The driver is arranged on the main guide plate and is in transmission connection with the driving main shaft; the adjusting assembly is arranged on the truss and used for adjusting the moving position of the main guide plate on the guide piece. According to the escalator, when the driving system of the escalator is installed on the lower portion of the escalator, the tensioning requirement of the step chain can be met.
