A system for reducing the load acting on highly flexible aircraft cargo, such as a wind turbine blade, is disclosed. Such systems may be active and/or passive. The active system may be in the form of an open-loop or closed-loop active control system that includes one or more sensors on the fuselage and/or the payload, actuators acting to the payload, and/or an electronic controller. The passive system may include a spring-damped suspension, optionally in combination with a device such as a shock absorber, and may be controlled by, for example, the placement of a payload securing device and the degree of constraint that they exert on the payload.
