A split type DC charger and a charging method, the split type DC charger comprises a charging host and at least one charging terminal, the charging host comprises a plurality of charging modules, the output ends of the plurality of charging modules are connected with a power distribution unit, and the power distribution unit is connected with the charging terminal. The circuit topology of the power distribution unit comprises two groups of first direct current contactors with the same number, and a power node used for being connected with a charging module is formed between two adjacent first direct current contactors in the same group of first direct current contactors. And the power nodes of the two groups of first direct-current contactors are in one-to-one correspondence and are bridged through the second direct-current contactor. Compared with a single-ring circuit topology, four power merging paths are provided for each power node, so that the flexibility of power distribution is high; compared with a matrix circuit topology, the number of the direct current contactors is small, and the cost and the failure rate are reduced.
