The invention relates to an impact absorber for a bumper assembly of a motor vehicle. The impact absorber can be fastened to a cross-member of the motor vehicle and is designed to at least partially absorb an energy input acting on the impact absorber in the event of a collision and to provide the energy input on a force transmission section that can be operatively connected to the pressure sensor device such that the pressure sensor device can detect a collision. The impact absorber has an absorption section and a force transmission section. The force transmission section is designed to at least partially transmit an energy input acting on the impact absorber in the event of an impact to the force transmission section while partially bypassing the absorption section. According to the invention, the force-conducting section is designed such that it collapses in the event of an energy input which is high such that a collision can be detected by means of the pressure sensor device without locally bypassing the absorption section.
