The invention relates to a brake system (4) for a motorcycle (8). Comprising at least one first brake (12) associated with the front wheel of said motorcycle (8), at least one first electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical actuator (16) operatively connected to said first brake (12), associated with and corresponding to said at least one first brake (12), at least a first manual actuation operator (20) for sending a braking request from a user, at least a second brake (24) associated with the rear wheel of said motorcycle (8), at least a second electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical actuator (28) operatively connected to said second brake (24), with said at least one second brake (24) at least a second manual actuation operator (32) associated and corresponding to said at least one second brake (24) for sending a braking request from a user, operatively connected to the first manual actuation operator (20), to the second manual actuation operator (32), and to said first and second electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical actuators (16, 28) and a control unit (36). The control unit (36) is programmed to: receive a braking request from a user after the manual actuation operator (20, 32) has been actuated, the braking request is understood on the basis of actually which actuation manipulators or the number of actuation manipulators that have actually been actuated, and/or the intensity of the actuation given by the stroke and/or the actuation force or pressure of the respective manual actuation manipulator (20, 32), at least one of the electro-hydraulic or electro-mechanical actuators (16, 28) is activated in accordance with the braking request to effect deceleration of the motorcycle (8) irrespective of the effective actuation of the corresponding manual actuation manipulators (20, 32).
