The present disclosure relates to a method of repairing a composite beam having a longitudinal direction, the method comprising: removing material from a damaged region of the composite beam to form a cut-out region; machining a plurality of elongated grooves into the composite beam, the elongated grooves each having a length in a longitudinal direction of the composite beam and spanning the damaged region, the elongated grooves extending into the composite beam a depth greater than a depth of the cut-out region; a plurality of reinforcing inserts are introduced into the respective elongated slots and the reinforcing inserts are secured into the slots with an adhesive.
