A computer-implemented method includes determining, by a computer system of a first vehicle, that a traffic stagnation criterion is satisfied, the traffic stagnation criterion including that the first vehicle is stationary in traffic and a second vehicle in front of the first vehicle is also stationary; receiving, by the computer system, a camera output associated with a driver of the first vehicle, the camera output generated by a camera located in a passenger compartment of the first vehicle; assigning, by the computer system, a distraction level to the driver based on the camera output, the distraction level selected from a plurality of distraction levels; determining, by the computer system, a criterion to meet the departure event; and selecting, by the computer system and based on the distraction level assigned to the driver, a first alarm level from a plurality of alarm levels regarding the departure event.
