A parking lock system for use in an automobile provides a coupling between a rotor of an electric motor that powers the automobile and a portion of an automobile chassis to prevent the automobile from sliding in an engaged setting when the automobile is parked on a mountain. However, the parking lock system may also be engaged when the vehicle slides. In this case, due to the sudden deceleration of the components of the motor vehicle power system, high loads may occur on these components. In order to reduce deceleration after engagement of the parking lock mechanism, an elastic member is introduced. The elastic member is arranged to elastically deform and retard sudden deceleration, reducing the load on part of the power system due to deceleration. Due to the reduction of these loads, smaller and/or lighter components may be used in the powertrain, which is advantageous for the size and/or weight of the vehicle.
