A vertical take-off and landing aircraft uses fixed rotors with respect to both VTOL and forward flight operations. The rotors form a composite wing and are positioned to achieve high span efficiency. The rotors are positioned to homogenize lift across the span of the synthetic wing. The composite wing may also have narrow forward and aft airfoils, which may provide structural support and lift during forward flight. The wing rotors tilt forward and provide some forward propulsive forces during horizontal flight.
