The invention belongs to the technical field of overhead line defect detection, and particularly provides an overhead line defect detection system and method.The method comprises the steps that an unmanned aerial vehicle drives a front-end camera shooting detection device to fly along an overhead line; the front-end camera shooting detection device is used for carrying out data sampling on the overhead line and carrying out comparative analysis on the collected data and historical data to obtain defect characteristics; and the database server stores the collected data and the comparative analysis result. According to the scheme, the accuracy of overhead line defect detection can be improved, the reliability of overhead line defect detection operation is improved, and the safety of the overhead line is ensured.
