The present disclosure provides diagnostics of an on-board water generation system. A vehicle includes: (a) a water generator configured to generate water; (b) a water storage container configured to store the water generated by the water generator; (c) an ultraviolet light emitter, wherein the ultraviolet light emitter is configured to emit ultraviolet light into the water storage container; (d) a sensor configured to detect the ultraviolet light emitted by the ultraviolet light emitter; and (e) a human-machine interface configured to issue a notification to a user of the vehicle regarding the ultraviolet light emitter. The sensor can detect the wavelength range of the ultraviolet light emitted by the ultraviolet light emitter. The sensor can detect the intensity of the ultraviolet light emitted by the ultraviolet light emitter in a preset wavelength or wavelength range. The vehicle also includes a controller in communication with the ultraviolet light emitter, the sensor, and the human-computer interface.
