The invention provides a battery cooling system capable of reducing energy consumption and a battery cooling method, the battery cooling system comprises a battery assembly, a refrigeration assembly and a heat dissipation piece, the refrigeration assembly is communicated with an inlet and an outlet of the heat dissipation piece through a first pipeline, and the heat dissipation piece is in contact with the surface of the battery assembly. The interior of the compartment is refrigerated through the refrigeration assembly, the heat dissipation piece makes contact with the surface of the battery assembly, and the refrigeration assembly exchanges heat with the battery assembly through the heat dissipation piece, so that a battery is cooled. Components such as a low-temperature water tank, a waterway pipeline, an expansion water tank and a plate-type evaporator are not needed, and the weight of the whole machine is greatly reduced under the condition that compartment refrigeration and battery cooling are not affected.
