The invention relates to a method for emergency application of a parking brake (PB) of a vehicle (FG), in which-a service brake system (SBS) having a service brake (SB) and a parking brake system (PBS) having a parking brake (PB) are constituent parts of an electropneumatic brake system (10),-the parking brake system (PBS) has a spring-loaded brake cylinder, the service brake system (SBS) comprises a service brake control unit (ECU) for actuating the components (AMV, AMH) of the service brake (SB), at least one brake circuit (BK1, BK2, BK3) is provided for the service brake (SB) and the parking brake (PB), the brake circuits (BK1, BK2, BK3) for the service brake (SB) and the parking brake (PB) may also be separate, and the brake circuits (BK1, BK2, BK3) for the service brake (SB) and the parking brake (PB) may also be separate. The spring-loaded brake cylinder can be deflated when the reserve pressure (RP1, RP2) in the at least one brake circuit (BK1, BK2) for the service brake (SB) drops, and wherein the service brake control unit (ECU) reduces the reserve pressure (RP1, RP2) in the at least one brake circuit (BK1, BK2) for the service brake (SB) in a programmed manner under defined conditions.
