The invention provides an ultra-large tower crane based on an automatic control mobile counterweight and a control method of the ultra-large tower crane. A mobile counterweight mechanism capable of doing reciprocating motion is hung on a balance arm, and a counterweight traction winch is further installed on the lower portion of the balance arm; a position correction sensing assembly used for monitoring the position of the movable balance weight mechanism is arranged on the balance weight traction winch, a monitoring sensor assembly is arranged in the winch driving assembly and used for monitoring the lifting weight, the variable-amplitude stroke and deformation of the lifting arm and the balance arm, and a control unit is arranged in a control cabinet of the cab. By arranging the movable balance weight mechanism, the movable balance weight mechanism can be conveniently moved to different points on the balance arm so as to balance the moment borne by the tower body, improve the alternating stress state borne by the fixed balance weight tower body, reduce the structural fatigue of the tower body and prolong the service life of the metal structure of the tower body, and for tower cranes of the same level, the size of the balance arm can be reduced; the required operation space is small, and the on-site arrangement of the tower crane is facilitated.
