A method for detecting an arc (A, Varc) occurring between a rail overhead contact line (12) carrying a DC voltage (Vline) and a pantograph (11a) of a rail traction unit (11) collecting a current (Ip) absorbed or injected by the rail traction unit (11), the pantograph (11a) comprising an input low-pass filter that: operates at a given natural frequency (fN); receiving, at its input, a voltage (Vp) between the pantograph (11a), in particular a pantograph shoe, and a reference node, and said current (Ip) absorbed or injected by the rail traction unit (11); the invention relates to a method for measuring the voltage (Vp) between a pantograph (11a) and a reference node (11) and supplying a filtered voltage (Vdsf) at its output to a rail traction unit (11), said method comprising measuring (110) the voltage (Vp) between the pantograph (11a) and the reference node and the current (Ip) absorbed or injected by the rail traction unit (11), thereby obtaining a measured voltage (Vp, out) and a measured current (Ip, out), respectively, extracting (120; 220; 320) having a defined spectral portion around a given detection frequency (fdet), an extraction voltage signal (Vbp; vfilt is carried out; vT) from the measurement current (Ip, out) absorbed or injected by the locomotive, extracting (130; 230, 230; 330) having a defined spectral portion around the given natural frequency (fN), an extraction current signal (Ibp; ifilt is carried out; iT) having a defined spectral portion, converting the extracted voltage signal (Vbp; vfilt is carried out; vT) and the amplitude of the extracted current signal (Ibp; ifilt is carried out; iT) with a corresponding threshold value (thv, thi), verifying (150; 250) whether the comparison operation (140) indicates whether the extracted voltage signal (Vbp; vfilt is carried out; vT) and the amplitude of the extracted current signal (Ibp; ifilt is carried out; iT) is higher than the respective threshold value (thv, thi), and in a positive case, a detection (AD) of the arc (A) is signaled (160).
