The invention relates to a rotatable airfoil component with fine rods. An airfoil component is formed from a continuous fiber reinforced polymer composite material formed by curing a laid layer of prepreg extending in a radial and chordwise direction of the airfoil component. The airfoil component also includes a plurality of fine rods extending across the layers of the airfoil component to pin the layers together. The fine rods are arranged to form a pattern of a V-shape on the pressure and/or suction surface of the airfoil component, the V-shape having an apex and two arms extending away from the apex at an angle to each other. The V-shape (i) points to a radially inner root of the airfoil component such that one of the arms extends radially outward from the apex toward a leading edge of the airfoil component and another arm extends radially outward from the apex toward a trailing edge of the airfoil component, or (ii) points to a radially outer tip of the airfoil component such that the other arm extends radially outward from the apex toward a trailing edge of the airfoil component. The arms are arranged such that one of the arms extends radially inward from the apex toward the trailing edge of the airfoil component and the other arm extends radially inward from the apex toward the leading edge of the airfoil component.
