The invention relates to the technical field of lifting devices, and provides an overload detection method and an overload detection device of a lifting device in order to solve the technical problem of how to accurately detect whether the lifting device is overloaded or not, the lifting device comprises a motor and a transmission mechanism, and the transmission mechanism is connected with a rope. The overload detection method comprises the following steps: acquiring rated acceleration data of the lifting device; starting to detect the lifting acceleration of the to-be-detected load in real time when the motor is started to run, so as to obtain the actual acceleration data of the lifting device; and comparing the actual acceleration data with the rated acceleration data to judge whether the lifting device is overloaded or not.
