An apparatus for detecting the frosting intensity (2) of an aircraft (1) in flight comprises a frost collecting surface and a measuring device (4) capable of measuring the thickness of frost deposited on the frost collecting surface. The device comprises calculation means (6) capable of determining a change in the thickness of the frost at predetermined time intervals (Tsamp), and control means (7) capable of generating an alarm signal when the difference in the thickness of the frost measured between two time intervals (Tsamp) is greater than a threshold value.
