A control system (208) for allowing deactivation of vehicle creeping in a vehicle (10) having an engine (202), the control system (208) including one or more controllers (300), where the control system (208) is configured to initiate vehicle creeping (402) such that wheel drive torque may reach a first value greater than zero in the absence of a driver load request and no braking request, and to activate vehicle creeping (402) in the absence of a driver load request and no braking request. Wherein enabling vehicle crawling comprises: connecting the engine (202) to the wheels (FL, FR) while being started; monitoring a vehicle creep deactivation signal (404); and in response to the vehicle crawling deactivation signal (404), disabling the vehicle crawling (412) such that the wheel drive torque cannot reach the first value without a driver load request, and wherein disabling the vehicle crawling includes at least partially disconnecting the engine (202) from the wheels (FL, FR) (414).
