The invention discloses an automatic transmission line turning device and method based on a gantry truss. The automatic transmission line turning device comprises a main support, wherein a gantry truss mechanism is mounted on the main support; the positioning mechanism lifts the transmission on the assembly line tray, the turnover mechanism drives the turnover clamp mechanism to return to the initial position, the base mechanism pushes the turnover mechanism to enter the two sides of the transmission, the turnover clamp mechanism clamps the upper side and the lower side of the transmission, and the turnover mechanism drives the turnover clamp mechanism to rotate, so that the transmission is adjusted to be in the horizontal state. The gantry truss mechanism drives the line rotating clamp mechanism to move to the upper side of the transmission, the line rotating clamp mechanism clamps a transmission shell, the turnover clamp mechanism and the turnover mechanism are separated from the transmission, the gantry truss mechanism drives the transmission to move to the test line tray, and the line rotating clamp mechanism is separated from the transmission, so that the transmission in a vertical state in the final assembly process is transferred to the test line tray. The horizontal state in the testing process is adjusted, operation is easy and fast, abrasion to equipment is avoided, and the reliability and safety of the production process are effectively improved.
