The invention relates to a charging device and method using an auxiliary battery. A charging device according to an embodiment includes: a main battery; a charger configured to generate an initial charging power source by receiving a direct current (DC) power source from an auxiliary battery mounted separately from the main battery or by receiving an alternating current (AC) power source to perform an initial charging operation; and a first switch configured to perform an initial charging operation by blocking or conducting an electrical connection between the auxiliary battery and the charger depending on whether the AC power supply is supplied. When the initial charging power supply reaches a preset reference value calculated by multiplying the output power supply of the main battery by a preset set value, the initial charging operation is terminated.
