The invention discloses a transformer substation lightning arrester carrying robot and a control method thereof. The transformer substation lightning arrester carrying robot comprises a carrying trolley, a walking mechanism, a plane displacement device and a mechanical claw. The walking mechanism is installed at the bottom of the carrying trolley body, a first camera is installed on the outer wall of the tail of the carrying trolley, a lens of the first camera is arranged in the direction from the trolley head to the trolley tail, and the first camera detects image information of the lightning arrester; a plane displacement device is installed on the carrying trolley, and a mechanical claw is installed at the bottom of the movable end of the plane displacement device. A second camera is arranged in the center of the bottom of the mechanical claw, a lens of the second camera is vertically arranged downwards, and the second camera detects image information of the lightning arrester; a controller is installed on the carrying trolley and electrically connected with the first camera, the second camera, the walking mechanism, the plane displacement device and the mechanical claw. According to the transformer substation lightning arrester carrying robot and the control method thereof, the effects of accurate positioning and efficiency improvement are achieved.
