A battery cell (12) suitable for an electric vehicle comprises a prismatic conductive housing (13) having a conductive housing body (14) having a width (W), a height (H) and a thickness (T) and having a substantially rectangular cross-section when viewed in a thickness direction (z). A stack (16, 16 ') of layer assemblies is housed in the housing body, each layer assembly comprising a cathode layer, an anode layer and a spacer layer therebetween, these layers extending in a width direction (x) and a height direction (y) and being substantially rectangular in shape, the stack height extending in a thickness direction (z). The cathode and anode layers each comprise a cathode tab and an anode tab, respectively, a set of tabs (18, 18 ') extending along the lower portion (19) in the width direction (x), substantially along the width (W) of the housing (13), and in conductive contact with the bottom (20) of the housing (13).
